A Holistic Healing Journey:  Part 1

Balancing Science & Spirituality

Holistic healing embraces the philosophy of treating the whole person, including the mind, body, and spirit, rather than focusing solely on physical symptoms. Whether using it to target a certain pain or illness, or just as a daily practice to keep your mind and body connected, incorporating holistic practices into your wellness routine is a great way to prioritize your mental and physical wellbeing and create your own survivor’s story.

Gena Bradshaw is a two-time cancer survivor and author of A Survivors Story: A Holistic Healing Journey Through Cancer. Gena has transformed her personal health journey by incorporating holistic healing alongside her cancer treatments. In week 1 of this installment, we focus on the the balance of science and spirituality through Gena’s journey

Journey to Integration

“I look back on my life and now notice the breadcrumbs that have brought me to this moment of merging the two worlds of science and spirituality. What I have learned throughout this journey is that science and spirituality are on two sides of the same coin, you cannot have one without the other. According to Dr. Lisa Miller, known for her research on the neuroscience of spirituality, there is a crucial role in believing in something greater than us and the impact it has on our health/lives.

The Mind-Body Connection

“I noticed that as I combine the two within my own life, I started to feel better, the fear of a cancer reoccurrence lifted, my neck pain and migraines went away, I noticed the subtle shifts not only in my health but my entire life, eventually guiding me to where I am today. Currently at 31 years old I am 11 years cancer free; I have half a thyroid; no medication and I have never felt better in my life.”

Embracing the Call

“During a routine oncology check-up in 2020, they found something on the remaining part of my thyroid which ended up being nothing. I had a mental breakdown, and in that moment, I had a sense of peace wash over me a knowing that all will be okay. I knew this is a lifestyle that I must continue with there is no way I could go back to who I used to be or the way I was living. Knowing there is another way to live is all someone needs to have unshakeable faith and make the leap.”

Come back next week to learn how Gena protects her peace when faced with overwhelming information as A Survivors Story continues.
